Highlights
- 60% of patients show skin improvement
- Reduces allergic responses to trigger foods over time
- May unnecessarily restrict diet if not food-sensitive
- Results can be unpredictable even with allergy testing
Elimination diets can be effective for some patients with atopic dermatitis, with about 60% of patients showing improvement in their skin condition when certain foods are removed from their diet

In children with severe eczema and gut symptoms, 61% showed improvement when following an elimination diet. The presence of certain immune cells (IgE-positive cells) in the gut could help predict which children would not respond to an elimination diet.

More than half of the children showed improvement with elimination diet |

Duodenal IgE-positive cells and elimination diet responsiveness in children with atopic dermatitisWhen food-sensitive patients with atopic dermatitis follow an elimination diet, their allergic responses (measured by IgE antibodies) to problematic foods like eggs or milk decrease over time

📄
Elimination diets helped improve symptoms in patients with atopic dermatitis who were sensitive to egg or milk. During the elimination diet, both antibodies to these foods and immune cell responses decreased, suggesting the diet was effective.

Effect of elimination diets on food-specific IgE antibodies and lymphocyte proliferative responses to food antigens in atopic dermatitis patients exhibiting sensitivity to food allergensWhile elimination diets may help some patients, it's difficult to predict who will respond well to the diet just based on standard allergy tests (like skin prick tests or blood tests)

There is limited scientific evidence that elimination diets help with atopic dermatitis, except in cases where specific food allergies have been confirmed. Food elimination should only be done under medical supervision to avoid nutritional deficiencies.

2-3 months in is when I finally started seeing results. My gross wet oozing eczema covered lips were going back to normal. My eczema inside my elbows were starting to get less itchy and fading away.
View Source3 weeks into the diet, and my eczema entirely f*cking cleared. And it stayed clear for the entire elimination phase of the diet. This was the first time in my whole life I have been completely eczema free- I'm still stunned.
View SourceAfter that my skin cleared up, my eczema subsided and I started healing. I didn't actually realize it until after that time when I was watching a documentary, I had made a toast with butter and some cheese (slowly adding dairy back to my diet) I took one bite and then got mesmerized by the documentary and sort of froze for 30 minutes in the same position. I then started getting this heat in my fingers and the familiar itchy feeling.
